Wembley Netball Club - Information for Parents & Players
The Wembley Netball Club is a community volunteer-based club. Our aim is to provide opportunities for our young people to be active, have fun with their friends, promote teamwork, develop leadership skills, and play the game they love. Integral to all of this, is to create a safe and inclusive environment to develop healthy physical, mental and social well being. Our club prides itself on our community engagement, a place for young people, families and friends to come together and support each other through netball.
Competition:
Held Saturdays at Altona Netball & Basketball stadium (Queens Street & Andrew Park Drive, Altona Meadows) as part of the Altona Netball Association competition. There are 2 seasons per year, Summer (Terms 1 & 2) and Winter (Terms 3 & 4).
Training:
Training is held at Wembley Primary School on the outdoor courts. Players still at primary school age, train after school from 3:30-4:30pm (kids attending Out of Hours School Care will be collected from and returned to the OSHC program). Players at secondary school will train from 4:30pm to allow for travel time.
Volunteers:
We rely on volunteers to support our club, so any family members that wish to participate as team managers, coaches or general committee positions would be most welcomed!
New teams:
New teams are often formed through gathering enough interest from other parents and friends and having someone volunteer to be the coach and another to be the team manager. All coaches and team managers MUST have a current Working With Children Check (WWCC).
A minimum of 7 players is required to register a team, however we recommend that 9 is an ideal number. For Year 1/2 students or new players, it has been really effective to begin training sessions after school and recruit new members – training and learning the rules of the game for a couple of terms before joining the competition.
Come & Try Sessions:
We run ‘Come and Try’ sessions and will advertise these in the Wembley Newsletter/ Community Noticeboard, on Sentral and on our social pages.
