School Council

The Role of School Council

In Victoria, School Councils currently have a variety of roles. Wembley Primary School Council's roles include:

  • determining the general educational policy of the school
  • developing the School Strategic Plan (a document that sets the 4 year direction for schools)
  • reporting annually to the School community which, at Wembley, occurs at the Annual School Community meeting
  • acting as a conduit regarding whole school issues, policies and practices
  • approving and monitoring the school budget
  • developing the student code of conduct
  • appointing the Principal and
  • generally stimulating interest in the school

What the School Council is not responsible for includes:

  • the day-to-day operations of the school, (such as staffing arrangements),
  • concerns relating to individual students,
  • complaints about teachers,
  • implementation of policies.

At Wembley Primary School, School Council is supported in its work by various sub-committees and action groups:

  • Finance
  • Education and Policy
  • Building and Grounds
  • Wembley Parent Group Fundraising and Events
  • Out of School Hours Care License Renewal
